2 Engineering Competencies (Fall Final Exam Requirements):
- Design Process: During our project in Eng 1-2 we were given the task of making a custom vex bot to compete against other groups vex robots, after understanding how we will compete we designed our robot to be able to do everything in the event, In the event you haft to push green balls into the opponents side through 2 small holes or throw them over the separation barrier, for this part we added a curved plate to the front of the bot to push the balls through the hole and made extended arm with a basket at the end to pick up 2-3 balls and throw them over or 1 orange football. we also build our robot to be able to sustain all this equipment and not fall over when the equipment are in use or not being used and aren't hindering anything.
- Technology and Tools: The tools I used the most during this Project was the grinder which would grind down rough, sharp, or off angled pieces of metal, after other group members would cut pieces out for the bot I would then grind them down and file them to make them fit or safe to grip from any side of the piece. When operating this machinery you want to wear eye protection and make sure you don't touch the moving objects, When you go to operate the machine put on all safety equipment and then turn on the machine, after this your going to want to start grinding. When grinding you don't want to press to hard but to soft you don't want to wear down the grinder and not grind the metal piece. Before grinding pieces of metal I would make marks on the metal pieces so I would know how far to grind and have an Idea when to stop to finish the job with a File, after grinding little pieces of metal shavings will be in the inside of the brackets of metal and you will need to File them down/off to make the piece of metal smooth and clean to use in your projects design.
